The Green Flag Awards for 2008 and have been announced and 11 sites managed by Fountains have received recognition. It has been the most successful year to date in the scheme for the managed services company with Green Flags for parks in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Wychavon District Council and The Royal Parks.
The London Borough of Tower Hamlets received six Green Flags in total including an award for Millwall Park which has never before received recognition. Wychavon District Council received three Green Flags, and again, Workman Gardens which is cared for by Fountains, is a first time winner. Both of the Royal Parks which are
maintained by Fountains, Richmond Park and Bushy Park were also awarded.
The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales. The award scheme began in 1996 as a means of recognising and rewarding the best green spaces in the country. It was also seen as a way of encouraging others to achieve the same high environmental standards, creating a benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas.
Richard Jowett, Executive Director, said “The operational staff at Fountains achieve high standards of service delivery on a daily basis. We are conscious that customers place enormous responsibility in our hands to ensure their parks and open spaces are maintained to levels of high quality. The Green Flag awards publicly recognise this and we are extremely proud of this year’s results”
